Kristen La Follette is a Lecturer in the Department of Humanities & Communication at California State University Monterey Bay, part of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. She teaches courses in Oral History, Playwriting, and Service Learning, bringing her interdisciplinary expertise to undergraduate education.
Her educational background includes an MFA in playwriting from San Francisco State University and an MA in oral history from Columbia University, creating a unique foundation for her scholarly work. Dr. La Follette specializes in 19th and 20th century U.S. social, political, and legal history, with particular expertise in LGBTQ+ history. She is actively engaged in the scholarship of teaching and learning, continually developing innovative pedagogical approaches.
Dr. La Follette serves as the chair of the Oral History Association Emerging Professionals Committee and has extensive experience conducting oral history workshops for diverse organizations including the Monterey County Theatre Alliance, Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, Veteran's Oral History Project, and Partners for Peace. Her work in oral history theatre represents a significant contribution to the field, bridging historical research with creative expression.
