Dr. Krista McLennan is the Head of the School of Natural Sciences at the University of Chester, leading a cross-disciplinary team in biology, chemistry, and physics. Previously, she was Head of Biological Sciences and a Senior Lecturer in Animal Behaviour & Welfare. Her academic career includes post-doctoral research at the University of Cambridge and participation in the EU-funded AWIN project. She focuses on animal welfare science, particularly behavioral indicators of pain in species like sheep and dogs, and collaborates with institutions such as the University of Glasgow and Cambridge BOAS Research Group. Key roles include membership in the Academic Leadership Group and alignment with the University’s Citizen Student Strategy. Her teaching emphasizes student-centered learning, using innovative methods like role-play and technology integration. Research interests span pain assessment via facial expressions, automated welfare detection systems, and disease impacts on animal behavior.
