Krista Knight

Krista Knight is a Writer in Residence in the Department of Cinema & Media Arts and Theatre at Vanderbilt University, where she teaches playwriting and screenwriting and produces new work festivals each semester, including the One Minute Stage and Screen Festival (OMSSF) and Vanderbinge: Rapid Fire Scenes.

She holds an Artist Diploma in Playwriting from Juilliard, a BA in Theatre and English from Brown University, an MA in Performance Studies from NYU, and an MFA in Playwriting from UC San Diego.

Her creative work spans playwriting, screenwriting, musical theatre, libretto, virtual reality, and media for young audiences. She has written 16 full-length plays, 5 full-length musicals, 17 works for young audiences, and sold a screenplay. Her works have been developed or produced at NYTW, The Vineyard Theatre, New Georges, Joe's Pub, Ars Nova, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and others.

Professor Knight has received numerous fellowships and awards, including the 2016 Heideman Award, the Page 73 Playwriting Fellowship, MacDowell Fellowship, Shank Playwriting Fellowship, and the Juilliard Fellowship. She is also recognized on The Kilroys List 2019. She has been in residence at La Napoule Art Foundation, MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, UCross, and other prestigious artist colonies.

She is an alum of EST’s Youngblood, TerraNova Groundbreakers, Page 73’s Interstate 73, The Civilians R&D Lab, and New Georges JAM. She is currently a member of the Writers Room at Experiments in Opera.

Her commissions include a dance-a-thon musical with Dave Malloy, a script for a Tokyo Disneyland ride, and projects for Berkeley Rep School of Theatre and Case Western Reserve University School of Biomedical Engineering.
