Krishnankutty Sathian is a Professor and Chair of Neurology, Professor of Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics, and Psychology at Pennsylvania State University. He directs the Penn State Neuroscience Institute. His research focuses on cognitive and visual neurorehabilitation, multisensory perception, and the interface between perception and language. Dr. Sathian has been funded by NIH for 25 years, with additional support from NSF, VA, and private foundations.
Education:
- MBBS, Christian Medical College (1980)
- PhD in Neuroscience, University of Melbourne (1983–1987)
- Residency in Neurology, University of Chicago Medical Center (1991–1994)
Research Interests: Dr. Sathian explores how sensory systems interact to enhance cognitive functions, particularly in neurorehabilitation contexts. His work bridges clinical neurology and basic neuroscience, with a focus on visual and tactile processing. Recent studies examine olfactory-trigeminal integration and the neural basis of sound-symbolic associations.
