Kresten Yvind is a Professor and Group Leader of the Nanophotonic Devices group at the Department of Electrical and Photonics Engineering, Technical University of Denmark (DTU). He specializes in optical semiconductor components, including theory, fabrication, testing, and applications. His research focuses on III-V semiconductor materials (GaAs, InP, InAlGaAsP) and advanced photonic integrated circuits (optical chips) as well as tunable lasers. He leads a course on III-V semiconductor component fabrication and co-teaches courses on semiconductor physics and laser technology.
Key research areas include nanophotonics, quantum dot-based photonics, and nonlinear optics. Yvind has pioneered fabrication facilities at DTU for III-V semiconductor processing and collaborates with DTU Nanolab. His work contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals through advancements in sustainable optical communication technologies.
Recent projects involve supervision of PhD students in areas such as silicon carbide microcombs, monolithic III-V integration on silicon platforms, and quantum photonics. Notable collaborations include work with institutions on soliton comb generation, Fano resonance-based optical switches, and biomedical imaging using OCT techniques.
Yvind’s expertise spans semiconductor fabrication, photonic device design, and applications in telecommunications and quantum technologies. His lab, the Nanophotonic Devices Center, focuses on silicon photonics and quantum technologies, aiming to bridge material science and device engineering for next-generation optical systems.
