Professor Kourosh Kalantar-Zadeh is a Professor at the University of Sydney's School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, part of the Faculty of Engineering. He holds additional roles as an Adjunct Professor at UNSW Sydney and an Honorary Professor at RMIT University. His research focuses on chemical engineering, materials science, biomedical engineering, and electronics, particularly in liquid metal catalysis, nanotechnology, and sensor development. He is an ARC Laureate Fellow (2018) and has received prestigious awards such as the 2020 Robert Boyle Prize for Analytical Science (Royal Society of Chemistry) and the 2017 IEEE Sensors Council Technical Achievement Award.
Research interests include liquid metal-enabled synthesis, gas sensing, and biomedical devices. He leads projects on liquid metal solvents, noble metal catalysis, and advanced manufacturing with 2D materials. Current research students (9 primary, 3 secondary) work on topics like green hydrogen production and liquid metal applications. Notable collaborations include the ARC Research Hub for Advanced Manufacturing with 2D Materials (AM2D).
Publications span over 500 papers in high-impact journals like Advanced Materials, Nano Letters, and Nature Communications, emphasizing liquid metal innovations. His work bridges academia and industry, with applications in energy, healthcare, and environmental sustainability. He is also affiliated with the University of Sydney Nano Institute and serves on editorial boards of journals like ACS Sensors and Advanced Materials Technologies.
