Kostia Gorobets is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Groningen, specializing in International & European Law and Philosophy. His research focuses on the normativity of international law, its authority, and the interplay between legal interpretation and international court practices. He holds editorial roles in major legal publications and contributes to debates on customary law, rule of law frameworks, and the philosophical underpinnings of global legal systems.
Education: PhD in Law, with academic work emphasizing conceptual re-constructions of international law and its practical reasoning. His research spans over two decades, with contributions in both English and Ukrainian academic contexts.
Research interests include legal authority in international systems, the role of solidarity in grounding international law, and methodological approaches to customary law interpretation. His work critiques traditional Hobbesian state-centric views and explores systemic pluralism in comparative law.
Publications include edited volumes on customary international law interpretation (Cambridge UP, 2024) and peer-reviewed articles on topics like the 'special military operation' discourse and metaphors in legal axiology. He actively engages in public commentary on international jurisprudence and legal philosophy.
