Dr. Kostas Mouratidis is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the University of Sheffield's School of Economics, where he has been since September 2008. He holds a PhD and MSc from the University of Birmingham. Before joining Sheffield, he worked at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) in London and served as a Lecturer in Finance at Swansea University. He also completed an internship at the European Central Bank's Fiscal Policy Division.
His research focuses on economic forecasting, monetary economics, and macro-finance. Key areas include evaluating forecast performance using survey data, analyzing central bank policy decisions, and exploring the risk-taking channel in monetary policy. He is particularly interested in supervising PhD students in macro-finance and the role of financial development in economic growth across business cycles.
Teaching responsibilities include modules on Business Finance (addressing exchange rate risk management) and Further Econometrics (focusing on endogeneity and empirical methods). He also mentors MSc students in dissertation writing and academic paper structuring.
His research contributions span over two decades, with publications in journals such as Journal of International Money and Finance, Manchester School, and International Journal of Finance and Economics. His work frequently employs advanced econometric techniques like Markov regime-switching models to analyze economic dynamics and policy impacts.
