Kostas Galanakis

Kostas Galanakis is an Associate Professor of Innovation Systems and Entrepreneurship at Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Trent University, where he has worked since 2009. He previously served as Programme Leader for Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship (2009–2020) and currently acts as Senior Research Fellow. His academic career spans roles including Head of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management subject group, PhD/DBA supervisor, and leader of research projects exceeding €6.5M in funding.

He holds a PhD in Modelling Innovation Systems from the University of Warwick's Warwick Manufacturing Group. His research applies Systems Thinking to analyze innovation at enterprise, regional, and national levels, emphasizing hidden interrelations among stakeholders. Current work focuses on local actions driving sustainable energy and mobility transitions, published in journals like Regional Studies, Technovation, and Omega: The International Journal of Management Science.

Kostas has coordinated multinational projects such as Smart-BEEjS (€4M Horizon2020) and STARTENT (€625K), targeting energy efficiency and entrepreneurship education. He serves as an Expert Panel Member for Horizon Europe and MSCA-ITN Evaluator, while advising the University of West Macedonia’s Management of Technology Research Lab. His teaching includes the MSc Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship program.

His research partnerships involve organizations like BIoCity, European Innovation Academy, and Toulouse Business School. He previously operated a Business and Technology Consultancy (2004–2009), focusing on business strategy, IT automation, and product development.
