Dr. Eelko Huizingh is an Associate Professor of Innovation Management at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Economics and Business. He holds a PhD (1992) and MA (1985) from the same institution. His research focuses on innovation ecosystems, entrepreneurship, and the intersection of technology with business strategy. He has authored over 500 articles and co-authored influential works like Open Innovation: State of the Art and Future Perspectives (Technovation, 2011).
His research interests include portfolio management, wicked problem solving, humor’s impact on creativity, and overcoming the 'Valley of Death' in technology commercialization. He has consulted firms on innovation strategy and served as guest editor for over 40 journal special issues.
Dr. Huizingh is a 2013 Davidson Award winner and ISPIM Fellow (since 2023). He directed the Innovation Centre of Expertise Vinci (2015–2021) and has held visiting professorships at the University of Otago and Penn State University. He teaches Strategic Innovation Management and coordinates the Developing for Markets course, consistently earning top student evaluations.
His recent activities include workshops on academic writing and advising PhD students. He emphasizes learning from historical business cases to inform modern management practices.
