Dr. Eelko Huizingh is an Associate Professor of Innovation Management at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Economics and Business. He holds a Ph.D. in Marketing Information Systems and has held academic roles since 1986, including visiting positions at Penn State University and the University of Otago. His research focuses on innovation management, entrepreneurship, marketing strategy, and the intersection of technology with business practices. He has authored over 500 articles and co-authored textbooks on innovation and marketing management. Key areas of research include portfolio management, open innovation, innovation contests, and wicked problem-solving. Dr. Huizingh is a Fellow of ISPIM and served as Vice President for Scientific Affairs (2007–2023). He also directs academic writing workshops and advises companies on innovation strategies.
His notable contributions include the 2011 Technovation paper on open innovation (2,782 citations) and the 2000 Information & Management paper on web site design (1,166 citations). He has received the Davidson Award (2013) and co-edited over 40 special journal issues. Teaching highlights include coordinating the Master of Science in Strategic Innovation Management and consistently achieving top rankings in student evaluations.
Dr. Huizingh's work emphasizes practical applications of innovation theory, often collaborating with firms like Menzis and Interzorg. His recent projects address sustainability, circular economy, and humor's role in fostering creativity.
