Dr. Eric Shiu is an Assistant Professor in Marketing and Innovation Management at the Department of Marketing, Birmingham Business School, University of Birmingham. He is a key researcher in innovation management and is affiliated with the Consumer Science and Marketing Innovation research group. He is also a founding member of the interdisciplinary Cellular Agriculture Research Network and the Food Research Network.

Eric Shiu's research centers on innovation management, new product development, and creativity theory and practice, with interdisciplinary applications in technology management, knowledge management, food marketing, retailing, and sustainable transport. His work bridges academic, governmental, and industry domains, emphasizing practical innovation strategies and consumer behavior. He has also explored trust and adoption in emerging technologies.
His recent publications (2016–2024) reflect a strong trajectory in open innovation, green entrepreneurship, big data analytics, social media in e-commerce, and food system fairness. These works demonstrate a consistent focus on sustainability, digital transformation, and consumer engagement across marketing and innovation contexts.

Eric supervises undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students, having successfully nurtured over ten PhD graduates. He has held key administrative roles including Programme Director for MSc Marketing, Departmental Director of Education, and currently serves as Academic Integrity Officer. Externally, he contributes to academic discourse as a peer reviewer for journals like Journal of International Marketing, Technovation, and European Journal of Marketing, and serves on programme committees for major conferences.
He is actively involved in professional organizations including ESOMAR, PDMA, ISPIM, and SAS/SPSS User Groups, and is a founding member of the Network for Interdisciplinary Creativity Knowledge.
