National and Kapodistrian University of Athensمعرفی
Kosmas Tsakmakidis is an Assistant Professor in Condensed Matter Physics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Greece, since March 2018 (tenured from Nov 2021). He has held research fellowships at the University of Surrey (2008-2010), Imperial College London (2011-2013), UC Berkeley (2014-2015), University of Ottawa (2015-2016), and EPFL (2017-2018).
His research spans condensed matter photonics, nanophotonics, and topological photonics, with seminal work on rainbow trapping, slow/fast light, metamaterials, plasmonics, and invisibility cloaking. His contributions have redefined wave control paradigms and extended the rainbow trapping effect to topological regimes.
Recent publications highlight trends in topological photonics, including tunable index-near-zero modes, unidirectional surface magnetoplasmons, and complex-frequency-driven wave manipulation. His work bridges theoretical insights (e.g., 3D one-way wave equations) with applied breakthroughs (e.g., chiral sensing, THz isolation).
