Konstantinos Chrysogelos

Konstantinos Chrysogelos is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Philology at the University of Patras, specializing in Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Byzantine Philology, focusing on oral and popular literary production from the 4th to 15th centuries. His office is located in Building K9, with regular office hours on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Chrysogelos completed his education at the University of Athens (BA in Linguistics, 2006; MA in Modern Greek Philology, 2009) and earned his doctorate in Byzantine Philology from the University of Thessaloniki (2015). His research collaborations include participation in the 'Thalis' project (University of Athens, 2014-2015), 'Zephyrus' (University of Cyprus, 2017-2018), 'Athonite Digital Ark' (Holy Community of Mount Athos, 2018), and documentation work for the Cavafy Archive at the Onassis Foundation (2022). Between 2018-2019, he contributed to a Ministry-funded research project on 19th-century scholar Christopher Philitas.

His research examines Byzantine and post-Byzantine literature through multiple lenses: textual publication methodologies, poetic traditions of the middle/late Byzantine periods, satirical works, and post-Byzantine epigrams. A significant focus involves tracing Byzantine cultural receptions in modern Greek literature and 20th-21st century cinema. His publications demonstrate consistent engagement with Byzantine literary criticism, manuscript studies, and historical receptions across 15 peer-reviewed works since 2013.
