Filippomaria Pontani

Filippomaria Pontani is a Full Professor of Greek and Latin Philology at the Department of Humanities, Ca' Foscari University of Venice, where she serves on the Board of Directors. Her academic work spans classical philology, Byzantine studies, and the reception of ancient texts in later periods, with particular expertise in Homeric scholarship and textual criticism.

Her research interests focus on Greek literature from antiquity to the modern period, Byzantine scholarship, and the transmission of classical texts. Pontani has made significant contributions to the understanding of Homeric scholia, Byzantine philological practices, and the Hellenistic poetic tradition. Her work often bridges philological precision with broader cultural analysis, examining how ancient texts were received and transformed across historical periods.
