Kofi Kufuor

Professor Kofi Kufuor is a faculty member at the University of East London (UEL), holding the position of Professor in the Department of Law & Criminology within the Royal Docks School of Business and Law. He serves as Research Degrees Leader in the School of Law, Justice and Policing. His academic qualifications include a PhD from the University of Warwick, an LLM from the London School of Economics, and a BA from the University of Science and Technology, Ghana. Prof. Kufuor specializes in interdisciplinary legal scholarship, focusing on African economic integration, WTO law, law and development, and the interplay between legal frameworks and socioeconomic structures.

His research interests include New Institutional Economics, regionalism in Africa, and the role of law in urbanization processes. He has authored five monographs and over 40 refereed papers, with recent work centered on the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) and the jurisprudence of the ECOWAS Court of Justice. Prof. Kufuor has served as an external examiner for 23 doctoral theses across prestigious institutions like the University of Oxford and King’s College London.

He is actively involved in research groups such as the Centre for Justice, Law and Society, and serves as Associate Director of the Noon Centre. His teaching spans constitutional law, public international law, and specialized LLM modules on WTO law and international environmental law. Prof. Kufuor’s external engagements include consultancy work for the UK Department for International Development on antidumping cases and advising on Ghanaian law for legal practices in the UK. His publications reflect a commitment to understanding the legal foundations of economic and social development in Africa and beyond.
