He is responsible for teaching subjects IDR1015 Work Physiology and IDR2002 Sports Medicine, and is a member of the Trainome research group.
Dr. Mølmen's research primarily focuses on the effects of physical activity and training, with dual emphasis on health benefits and performance optimization. His work spans several key areas including:
- Interval training methodologies and their physiological effects
- Endurance performance in cycling and cross-country skiing
- Physiological adaptations to altitude and heat training
- Exercise physiology in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Mitochondrial and capillary adaptations to exercise
His recent publication record shows a strong focus on endurance training adaptations, particularly examining how different training protocols affect performance in athletes. Much of his work involves collaboration with other researchers in the field, particularly with colleagues like Bent Rønnestad, Ingvill Odden, and Joar Hansen. His research often targets well-trained athletes, especially cyclists, examining how specific training protocols can optimize performance outcomes.
Dr. Mølmen has published in high-impact journals including Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, European Journal of Sport Science, and Sports Medicine. His work demonstrates methodological diversity, incorporating systematic reviews, meta-regressions, and experimental studies.
As an educator, Dr. Mølmen contributes to the academic training of students in exercise physiology and sports medicine. He also engages with the broader community through a podcast produced by the Section for Health and Exercise Physiology, and maintains professional presence on ResearchGate and Twitter.
Outside of his academic work, Dr. Mølmen enjoys long bike and ski adventures, which aligns with his professional focus on endurance sports and physical activity.
