Håvard Hamarsland is an Associate Professor at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences, leading the Trainome research group. He holds a position in the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, specifically within the Section of Health and Exercise Physiology, based at the Lillehammer campus. His research focuses on understanding how physical activity, particularly strength training, impacts physical function and health, with an emphasis on elucidating the mechanisms behind individual variability in exercise responses to enhance personalized exercise guidance.
Teaching responsibilities include courses in cell biology, human physiology, and exercise physiology across bachelor’s and master’s programs. He supervises students at all academic levels, from bachelor’s to doctoral candidates. Additionally, he contributes to the podcast 'Training' produced by his department.
His research group, Trainome, investigates topics such as skeletal muscle metabolism, training adaptations, and the physiological effects of interventions like heat training and nutritional supplementation. Key recent studies include investigations into interval training efficacy, krill oil’s impact on muscle cells, and the role of hemoglobin mass in endurance performance.
Publications span journals like Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, Frontiers in Nutrition, and European Journal of Sport Science, reflecting his focus on applied and mechanistic aspects of exercise and health.
