Dr. Klaus Puettmann is a Professor in the Department of Forest Ecosystems & Society at Oregon State University's College of Forestry. His research focuses on forest ecology, silviculture, and adaptive management strategies under global change. He serves as a Graduate Major Advisor and teaches courses like FES 240 (Forest Biology). His work emphasizes structural complexity in forests, climate resilience, and biodiversity conservation.
Research interests include silvicultural approaches to enhance forest adaptability, restoration ecology, and the interplay between forest management and ecosystem services. He has extensively studied partial harvesting impacts, species diversity dynamics, and riparian buffer effects. His projects often address global challenges like climate change and sustainable forestry practices.
Recent publications highlight themes such as silvicultural complexity, financial outcomes of diversified forestry, and global professional perspectives on forestry adaptation. His work bridges theory and practice, advocating for complex adaptive systems frameworks in forest stewardship.
Dr. Puettmann advises graduate students like Anna Wemple and collaborates on projects involving forest carbon estimation, wildlife habitat resilience, and riparian buffer management. His research integrates ecological, economic, and social dimensions to advance sustainable forest management globally.
