Klaske M. Havik

Klaske M. Havik is a Professor of Methods of Analysis and Imagination at the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, Delft University of Technology. She holds a Visiting Professorship at Tampere University (2015–2017). Her work integrates literary approaches with architectural research, emphasizing spatial imagination, urban narratives, and the interplay between language and design.

Research interests focus on architectural description, transcription, and prescription as tools for understanding place. She pioneered the Writingplace platform and edited influential architecture journals like OASE. Key publications include Urban Literacy (2014), Writingplace: Investigations in Architecture and Literature (2016), and contributions to the EU COST Action Writing Urban Places.

Awards include the Dutch Architect of the Year Award (2014) and an Honorary Doctorate from Tampere University (2022). Her work bridges academic research and public engagement through conferences, workshops, and collaborative projects like the NDSM ship wharf study. She leads interdisciplinary initiatives exploring urban commoning, spatial atmospheres, and narrative methods in design education.
