معرفی
Professor Klas Wiman is a leading researcher in molecular cell and tumor biology at Karolinska Institutet's Department of Oncology-Pathology. He has been a faculty member since 1999, focusing on cancer biology, particularly the tumor suppressor gene TP53. His work includes coordinating a major EU project (Mutp53) and co-founding Aprea Therapeutics to develop p53-targeted drugs like APR-246. His research explores mutant p53 reactivation, cancer therapy, and redox balance modulation.
Research interests include TP53 mutations, translational readthrough for nonsense mutations, and APR-246’s role in cancer prevention. Recent articles highlight APR-246’s synergy with asparaginase, ROS-modulating genes in breast cancer, and mechanisms targeting cysteine residues in mutant p53. His work bridges basic science and clinical applications, with contributions to drug development and cancer pathways.
Grants include an ERC Advanced Grant and EU funding. His team collaborates with Susanne Schlisio’s group and has published extensively in journals like Nature Reviews Cancer and Cell Death & Disease. Key achievements include identifying APR-246’s efficacy in clinical trials for MDS/AML and advancing understanding of p53’s role in cell death and proliferation.
