Kjetil Søren Sundet is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Oslo, serving as Head of Department since 2012. He holds adjunct roles at Oslo University Hospital and leads the Neurocognitive Group within the 'Thematic Organized Psychosis' (TOP) research program. His work focuses on neurocognitive profiles in neuropsychiatric illnesses, validation of diagnostic methods, and cognitive heterogeneity in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
Education includes a Cand.psychol. (1979) and PhD (1991) from the University of Oslo, alongside clinical training as a neuropsychologist. His career spans roles at Sunnaas Rehabilitation Hospital, Rikshospitalet University Hospital, and the University of Tromsø.
Research interests emphasize neurocognitive mechanisms in psychosis, cognitive variability in psychiatric disorders, and translational studies linking clinical, imaging, and genetic data. Key projects include the TOP program and Early Treatment and Intervention in Psychosis (TIPS) study, investigating social cognition, emotion perception, and treatment efficacy.
Publications (n=100+) address cognitive impairment in schizophrenia/bipolar disorder, polygenic risk scores, and neurocognitive trajectories. He chairs research grant review boards and collaborates internationally on genomic and neuropsychological studies.
