Kirsty Thomas is a Lecturer in Therapies at Swansea University's School of Health and Social Care, part of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences. She joined in 2022 to contribute to the Royal College of Occupational Therapists-accredited BSc in Occupational Therapy program, focusing on practice placement coordination. Previously, she worked as a Lead Occupational Therapist in Wales' mental health charities and NHS sectors, specializing in complex trauma and learning disabilities.
Her expertise includes sensory integration for adults, charity-based mental health services, and occupational practices promoting wellbeing. She teaches modules such as SHT101 (Foundation Sciences for Occupation) and oversees practice placements (SHT201/SHT302) to ensure students gain real-world experience. Kirsty emphasizes innovative teaching methods like the 'World Café' approach.
In her role as Practice Placement Tutor, she collaborates with NHS, social care, third-sector, and private organizations to secure quality placements. She maintains strong local clinical links and has registered as a private practitioner in sensory integration for adults with learning disabilities.
