Kirsty Bell

Kirsty Bell is a Senior Lecturer in Primary Education at the University of Sunderland, joining in 2020. She holds a PGCE (2008) and a Master's in Education (completed part-time). With 11 years of teaching experience across London and the North East, she specializes in mathematics education and foundation subjects, particularly geography. Her research focuses on streaming/settings in mathematics and discovery-led education models. She actively mentors trainee teachers and supports students in MA modules.

She coordinates mathematics education in schools and is involved in the North East Maths Hub for ITT and the Geographical Association. Kirsty emphasizes teacher confidence in mathematics and advocates for effective pedagogical practices.
