Dr. Kirsten Day is a Lecturer in Technology and Practice at the University of Melbourne's Melbourne School of Design, where she coordinates courses in Construction as Alchemy and Architectural Practice. With over 20 years of professional experience as a registered architect and director of Norman Day + Associates Architects, her research explores architectural futures, digital preservation, procurement methods, and inclusive design.
Her research focuses on the impact of digital technologies on architectural knowledge preservation, ethical documentation practices, and professional memory. Additional investigations examine how workplaces and neighborhoods can better accommodate people with disabilities through inclusive design principles and policy frameworks.
Publications address architectural education reform, digital heritage preservation, crime prevention through environmental design, and neurodiversity-informed spatial solutions. Recent projects include developing frameworks for CAD file preservation and analyzing procurement models' impact on graduate training.
She chairs the Research in Practice Committee for the Australian Institute of Architects (Victoria) and serves as an examiner for the Architects Registration Board of Victoria.
