Kirsi Viisainen is a Visiting Professor at King's College London's Department of Global Health and Social Medicine, part of the School of Global Affairs under the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. She specializes in the interdisciplinary study of social, cultural, political, and historical dimensions of health and illness through the Culture, Medicine & Power research group.
With over 20 years of experience, Viisainen focuses on global health program implementation across bilateral organizations (e.g., Finland's Ministry for Foreign Affairs) and international bodies like the Global Fund and WHO. Her research emphasizes stigma and gender in HIV/AIDS in Mozambique, integration of HIV and mental health services in resource-limited settings, and community roles in healthcare development. Geographically, her work spans Finland, Central America, China, and Mozambique, addressing reproductive health, health systems, and malaria.
Her academic contributions bridge medical anthropology and public health, advocating for culturally sensitive health interventions. Collaborative research efforts prioritize marginalized communities and systemic challenges in global health equity.
