Dr. Katherine Bristowe is a Senior Lecturer in Palliative Care at King's College London's Cicely Saunders Institute, part of the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care. She holds a PhD, MA, and BA and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Her role includes leading estates management and overseeing the MSc in Palliative Care program. She specializes in sociolinguistics, health communication, and qualitative research methods applied to palliative care.
Her research interests focus on widening access to palliative care, improving communication in serious illness, LGBTQ+ healthcare equity, HIV/AIDS care, and frailty management. She has contributed to developing child-centred outcome measures (C-POS) and led projects like DIAdIC (Dyadic Psychosocial Interventions for Cancer Patients) and ACCESSCare, addressing LGBTQ+ health disparities.
Key publications include work on palliative outcome scales, LGBTQ+ policy analysis, and frailty interventions. Her research has been featured in journals like Social Science & Medicine and Palliative Medicine. She collaborates internationally on projects funded by NIHR, MRC, and the EU, addressing global palliative care challenges.
Dr. Bristowe advises on qualitative methodologies, chairs palliative care task forces, and promotes inclusive healthcare policies. Her work bridges clinical practice, policy, and patient advocacy, emphasizing patient-centeredness and marginalized populations' needs.
