Kirk Dombrowski serves as Vice President for Research and Professor of Anthropology at University of Vermont. His interdisciplinary research addresses health disparities, substance abuse, and social determinants of health in indigenous and rural communities. Previously established NIH-funded research centers at University of Nebraska focused on rural addiction and minority health disparities.
Fieldwork examines injection drug use networks, HIV/HCV transmission dynamics, and culturally responsive interventions. Recent projects investigate migration patterns affecting substance use in Puerto Rico and social determinants of cardiometabolic health in Alaskan Native communities.
Research employs mixed-method approaches integrating ethnographic fieldwork, social network analysis, epidemiological modeling, and community-based participatory frameworks.
