Kirill Solonin

Kirill Solonin is a researcher affiliated with the Department of History and Philology of China Western Regions at Renmin University of China since 2013. He has held visiting and research positions, including Visiting Professor BuddhistRoad (2018) and KHK Research Fellow (2017).

• Education: PhD from St Petersburg University (1997), Full Doctorate (2007)

His research focuses on Buddhism and Tangut language/texts in Northern China during the 10th to 13th centuries, particularly the contextualization of Tangut Buddhist texts within broader regional Buddhist traditions. His work bridges historical philology and religious studies.

Kirill was a member of the Institute for Oriental Manuscript Research and St Petersburg University early in his career. He has contributed to interdisciplinary projects like BuddhistRoad, analyzing religious legitimation in medieval China.
