Weirong Shen is a Professor of Tibetan and Buddhist History at the School of Chinese Classics, Renmin University of China, and a Professor of Chinese Minority Language and Literature Studies at Tsinghua University. He founded the Tibetan and Buddhist History Research Institute and Sino-Tibetan Buddhist Studies Center at Renmin University in 2006.
- Education: Ph.D. in Language and Cultural Studies of Central Asia (University of Bonn, 1998); M.A. and B.A. in History Studies (Nanking University, 1986 and 1983).
His research focuses on Chinese ancient history (particularly the Yuan Dynasty), Tibetan history, and the religious interactions among Tibetan, Mongols, Tangut, Uygur, and Han Chinese communities between the 11th and 15th centuries. He has conducted extensive teaching and research at institutions like Harvard University, Kyoto University, and Humboldt University of Berlin.
In 2018, he was awarded a KHK Fellowship at the Käte Hamburger Kolleg for his project on 'Imperial Preceptor Chos rgyal ’Phags pa Bla ma as a Tantric Adept in the Mongol Yuan Dynasty.'
