Kirill Polkov is a Post-doctoral Researcher at the Department of Culture and Learning, Södertörn University, Sweden. His research focuses on intersections of sexuality, nationhood, and politics in Sweden and Russia, with particular attention to LGBTQ migration narratives.
- PhD thesis defended April 2024 on Swedish constructions of Russia's image through LGBTQ rights lens
- Current project (2024-2027): 'Navigating between anti-LGBTQ politics and homonationalism: Precarity and social support structures among Russian and Ugandan queer migrants in Sweden'
His work examines how queer migrants negotiate conflicting political narratives about LGBTQ issues, focusing on social relationships and support networks. Research utilizes cultural analysis frameworks with comparative studies of Sweden and post-Soviet contexts.
