معرفی
Prof. Dr. Kirill Bolotin is a Professor in the Department of Physics at Freie Universität Berlin, where he leads the Bolotin Lab focusing on quantum nanoelectronics of two-dimensional materials. His research group explores the fundamental properties and potential applications of atomically-thin materials such as graphene, transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), and hexagonal boron nitride (hBN).
His laboratory operates a dedicated cleanroom facility (SupraFab) with advanced nanofabrication equipment including electron beam lithography, focused ion beam systems, and various deposition tools. The lab also maintains sophisticated measurement setups including cryogenic systems for low-temperature electrical transport measurements, optoelectronic characterization, and nanomechanical testing.
Prof. Bolotin's research interests center on developing tools to manipulate the quantum mechanical properties of two-dimensional materials. His group fabricates and studies 2D materials under various conditions including ultra-strong electrical fields, mechanical strain, and chemical functionalization. The goal is to discover new electronic phases and ultimately control the quantum Hamiltonians of these materials for applications in quantum electronics, sensing, and energy conversion.
His work spans multiple disciplines including condensed matter physics, nanoscience, and quantum technology. Current research directions include:
- Nanofabrication of 2D material devices
- Strain engineering of electronic properties
- Quantum transport in 2D materials
- Optoelectronic properties of 2D heterostructures
- Development of novel measurement techniques for 2D materials
Prof. Bolotin's recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on the optical, electronic, and mechanical properties of 2D materials under various external perturbations. His work shows particular expertise in manipulating excitonic states, developing quantum emitters, and engineering electronic band structures through strain and electric fields. The research has significant implications for quantum information processing, nanoelectronics, and optoelectronic applications.
Prof. Bolotin actively mentors students and researchers, with current openings for Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD students as well as postdoctoral researchers. His laboratory provides extensive training in nanofabrication techniques, low-temperature measurements, and advanced characterization methods.
His laboratory maintains state-of-the-art facilities including:
- Cleanroom with electron beam lithography and focused ion beam systems
- Cryogenic measurement systems down to 1.5K with 12 Tesla magnetic fields
- Custom optical and photocurrent measurement setups
- Advanced nanomechanical testing equipment
