Kimberly Schnormeier serves as Associate Professor of Costume Design & Associate Chair in the Theatre Department at the University of Alabama at Birmingham within the College of Arts and Sciences. She also previously served as Associate Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences.
Her research and teaching expertise spans multiple dimensions of costume studies including Costume Design and Rendering, Costume History and Period Style, Social Psychology of Clothing, Interpretation of Dress, and Historic Costume Preservation. She has developed and taught a comprehensive curriculum covering costume design, history, construction, patterning, and rendering.
Ms. Schnormeier has designed costumes for over sixty UAB Theatre productions and numerous professional companies including Birmingham Children's Theatre, Horizon Theatre Company, Ashlawn-Highland Summer Opera Festival, West Virginia Public Theatre, Victory Gardens Theatre, and Williamstown Theatre Festival.

She founded and curates the department's historic costume study collection containing men's, women's and children's clothing and accessories from the mid-19th to late 20th century. An active member of the Costume Society of America, she has mentored numerous student costume designers and previously worked as a freelance designer in Chicago and as a cutter/draper at Northwestern University.
