Kimberly Bush

Dr. Kimberly Bush is a Teaching Associate Professor in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management at North Carolina State University. She serves as Associate Department Head and focuses on social equity, diversity, and community engagement in sport and physical activity. Her research addresses socio-economic barriers to physical activity, particularly for marginalized populations, and emphasizes the role of land-grant institutions in fostering inclusive communities.

Dr. Bush holds a Ph.D. in Sport and Exercise Pedagogy (2002) from The Ohio State University, along with multiple degrees in Physical Education and Psychology. She teaches courses such as Social Issues in Sport, Sport Finance and Economics, and Psychological and Cultural Dimensions in Sport.

Her research interests include developing programs that promote healthy lifestyles and environmental justice, often partnering with local schools to address disparities in access to physical activity. Recent studies explore the impact of interventions like Dynamo Fitness and Active Angels, focusing on Hispanic adolescents and STEM students during the pandemic.

Dr. Bush has secured grants, including a study on mental health strategies for ACC student-athletes during the pandemic. She actively engages in service-learning initiatives and collaborates with organizations to enhance diversity and inclusion in sport management and recreation.
