Kimberly A. Hart, Ph.D., LCPC, PEL:SC, NCC, ACS, is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling and Higher Education at Northern Illinois University's College of Education. She directs the Community Counseling Training Center (CCTC), oversees practicum placements, teaches practicum and internship courses, coordinates admissions, and supervises graduate assistants involved in counseling training and research.
Her research and professional interests center on counseling supervision, manifested multiculturalism and intersectionality, experiential and action-oriented education, and the intersections of religious and sexual identities. She is deeply committed to compassionate and conscious social justice, advocating for equity and inclusion in mental health and education.
Her service leadership includes past presidencies of the Illinois Counselor Educators and Supervisors (2022–2025), Illinois Counseling Association (2019–2020), Illinois Association for Specialists in Group Work (2016–2017), Illinois Counselors for Social Justice (2015–2016), and the NIU Counselors Association (2011–2012). She actively contributes to trauma-informed education, multicultural inclusion initiatives, and anti-racism work through mindful cross-cultural group facilitation, with a focus on empowering Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in both the general population and the counseling profession.
Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision and an M.S.Ed. in Counseling, both from Northern Illinois University, and a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
