Kimberley Baber is an Associate Professor at Bond University's Faculty of Society & Design, specializing in architectural design and fabrication in timber. Her research focuses on sustainable timber construction, including mass timber structures, roundwood utilization, and digital design strategies. She holds a Ph.D. equivalent M.Phil from the University of Queensland (2012) and a first-class B.Arch (Hons 1) from the same institution (2001).
- Education:
- M.Phil, University of Queensland (2012)
- B.Arch (Hons 1), University of Queensland (2001)
- B.Des St, University of Queensland (1997)
Her research explores material efficiency in timber structures, particularly through:
- Innovative design approaches for mass timber housing and civic buildings
- Historical and contemporary applications of roundwood in structural systems
- Integration of digital design tools with physical fabrication
- Moisture management in mass timber structures
- Optimization of underutilized timber resources
- Interdisciplinary collaboration with engineering disciplines
Recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate expertise in:
- Engineered timber systems for sustainable construction
- Parametric design methodologies
- Material performance in diverse building typologies
- Environmental impact reduction through design
She actively engages in professional development initiatives, including assessment practices in higher education.
