Norwegian University of Science And Technologyمعرفی
Marcin Luczkowski serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Structural Engineering at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Faculty of Engineering. His research focuses on developing form finding methods for shells and long span structures, with special emphasis on digital fabrication and mass customization. He is a key member of the Conceptual Structural Designing Group where he investigates new numerical methods to improve building processes and bridge the gap between design and manufacturing.
His research interests include structural optimization, parametric design, building information modeling (BIM), and computational methods for structural engineering. Luczkowski's work centers on creating better numerical methods for form finding, improving building process quality, adapting parametric platforms for structural engineering according to manufacturing changes, and developing more effective usage of BIM and FEM for digital fabrication. His recent publications reveal a growing focus on sustainable construction practices, particularly circular economy principles applied to timber structures and material reuse.
His research publications from 2016-2025 demonstrate consistent contributions to structural engineering, with increasing emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches combining architecture, engineering, and computational methods. Recent work shows significant interest in circular economy applications within structural engineering, particularly regarding timber construction and material reuse. His technical expertise spans from fundamental structural design to advanced computational tools development, including Grasshopper plugins for finite element analysis.
Luczkowski has received recognition for his innovative approaches to structural design, particularly in the areas of timber gridshells, parametric detailing of structural connections, and the integration of architectural considerations into structural engineering education. His work on aluminum nodes for timber gridshells and matching algorithms for reclaimed building elements demonstrates practical applications of his research.
As an educator, he teaches structural design courses and has participated in numerous academic lectures and conferences worldwide, presenting on topics ranging from parametric approaches to design to digital workflows for timber free-form structures. His teaching philosophy appears to emphasize the integration of architectural considerations into structural engineering education, as evidenced by his research on improving structural engineering curriculum through architectural inclusion.
