Dr. Kim Ominski serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Animal Science within the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, and concurrently directs the National Centre for Livestock and the Environment. Her work bridges academic leadership with applied research in sustainable livestock systems.

Her research program examines the environmental sustainability of forage-based beef cattle production through multidisciplinary analysis of greenhouse gas emissions, nutrient cycling, and pathogen dynamics in pasture and preserved forage systems. Collaborations with government agencies and commodity groups ensure practical implementation of findings into industry best management practices, addressing critical intersections between agricultural productivity and ecological stewardship.
