Dr. Kim Michael is an Anderson Distinguished Professor and Program Director of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s College of Allied Health Professions. Her career spans over three decades in sonography education, with leadership roles since 1998. She holds a BS from UNMC (1991), MA in Health Studies from University of Nebraska at Omaha (2006), and EdD from Clarkson College (2017).
Her research focuses on interprofessional education (IPE), clinical learning environments, and sonography pedagogy. She has authored/co-authored over 50 publications, with recent work emphasizing IPE frameworks, student belongingness, and radiation exposure effects on imaging professionals. Dr. Michael is a Fellow of the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (FSDMS) and actively contributes to professional organizations like the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
Her articles reflect innovations in hybrid learning models, assessment tools for IPE, and strategies for improving clinical training outcomes. Notable contributions include the development of an IPE checklist and studies on mindful practices in healthcare education. She has pioneered the use of lightly embalmed cadavers for sonography skill training and evaluated open-book testing in health sciences.
Awards include the Anderson Distinguished Professorship and FSDMS distinction. She advocates for inclusive curricula addressing transgender healthcare and occupational health for imaging professionals.
