Dr. Kim King is an Assistant Professor of Counseling at Upper Iowa University, where she has taught since 1996. She holds a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Iowa and multiple degrees from the University of Northern Iowa. Her expertise spans counseling, psychology, and education, with a focus on Positive Psychology, ACES, and resiliency. She previously served as a school psychologist for 23 years, specializing in behavioral and mental health support for children, including those from refugee backgrounds and non-English-speaking families.
Dr. King’s research and practice emphasize assessment, intervention design for challenging behaviors, and training in crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and Fierce Conversations. She actively contributes to the UIU Mental Health Counseling program, preparing students for clinical and school-based roles.
Her educational background includes a B.A. in Psychology (1993), M.A. in Educational Psychology (1994), Ed.S. in School Psychology (1995), and Ph.D. in Education (2003). Beyond academia, she values animals, children, and finding optimism in challenges.
