Kim Fox serves as Professor of Practice in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at The American University in Cairo (AUC), where she teaches Audio Production and pioneered Egypt's podcasting landscape through initiatives like PodFest Cairo (founded 2020) and the award-winning “Ehky Ya Masr” narrative podcast. With decades of US radio industry experience across multiple markets, she bridges professional practice and academia to advance audio storytelling education.

Her research centers on podcasting as a vehicle for social change, examining decolonial production methods, feminist activism in Egyptian media, and representation in audio storytelling. She investigates how podcasts serve as “discursive cultural guides” for Black communities and explores pedagogical innovations in teaching audio production across digital and global contexts, with strong emphasis on diversity, inclusion, and technology integration.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals a cohesive trajectory examining podcasting through critical social justice frameworks, with growing focus on Middle Eastern contexts and decolonial methodologies. Her work consistently connects educational practice with cultural representation, highlighting podcasting’s role in amplifying marginalized voices and reshaping audio journalism.

She serves on boards for BEA, AEJMC, AIR, and AUSACE while managing social media for multiple academic divisions.
She leads the HUSSLab research initiative and “Ehky Ya Masr” production team, collaborating with freelance producers (many former students) on thematic storytelling about Cairo life. As founder of PodFest Cairo, she coordinates annual conferences connecting 100+ podcasters while consulting for projects like Enterprise Egypt’s “Making It” podcast.
