Kim Emery is an Associate Professor at the University of Florida, affiliated with the Center for Gender, Sexualities, and Women’s Studies Research. She focuses on intersections of neoliberalism in higher education, queer theory, and 20th-century LGBTQ literature. Her research critiques how for-profit business practices influence academic structures, informed by pragmatism and feminist thought.
Her work has been published in Works & Days, Cultural Logic, Profession, and others. She received the Democracy in Higher Education Award (2009) for contributions to education equity. Dr. Emery teaches courses on US literature, queer theory, and feminist methodologies. She previously served as chapter president of United Faculty of Florida and remains an active member.
Her research explores historical and literary representations of LGBTQ identities, particularly lesbian subjectivity in 20th-century America, as detailed in her first book The Lesbian Index (2002). Her current project, Homo Academia, examines neoliberalism’s cultural impacts on liberal education.
