Kim Dhillon's research addresses art and social change, language in art, and the labour of care. As a first generation Canadian of Indian and English heritage, her work explores intersections of identity, colonialism, and artistic practice. Her current research focuses on text, reading, and writing in contemporary art, alongside creative non-fiction pieces examining homecoming and auto-theory in art history. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges conceptual art, critical theory, and social practice with particular attention to postcolonial perspectives and feminist frameworks.
Her writing appears in prestigious international publications including frieze, Art Review, i-D, fillip, Border Crossings, West 86th, and Studies in the Maternal. She also publishes poetry in Big Smoke Poetry and occasionally creates projects for exhibitions including at the Centre for Contemporary Art, Glasgow.
As an educator, Kim Dhillon teaches critical theory and art history while emphasizing the potential for art as a catalyst for dialogue and social change. She recently relocated from London back to Canada, specifically to the unceded territory of the SENCOTEN speaking peoples in Southern Vancouver Island, where she continues her scholarly and creative work while maintaining an active outdoor practice running on trails.
