Hilton Als is an acclaimed writer, critic, and academic currently serving as an Associate Professor of Writing at Columbia University’s School of the Arts. He has made significant contributions to theater criticism, cultural discourse on race, gender, and identity, and literary scholarship through his work at The New Yorker and other publications. Als has also curated influential art exhibitions and contributed essays to cultural projects.
Research & Creative Work
His research and writing explore intersections of race, class, sexuality, and identity in America, often through the lens of theater, literature, and visual arts. He has authored books such as White Girls and The Women, and is working on a debut play, Lives of the Performers.
