Kim Barclift

Dr. Kim Barclift is an Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, leading the instrumental music education program. Her roles include teaching graduate courses, supervising student teachers, and instructing instrumental music techniques. She previously served as Assistant Director of Bands at Elon University and supervised student teachers at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

• Ph.D. in Music Education, University of North Carolina Greensboro

Research focuses on effective music teacher skills, reflective practices, and bridging pre-service and in-service teaching. Her dissertation explored ratings of essential skills and dispositions for successful music teaching. Key presentations include work on preservice teacher self-reflection and collaborative ensemble rehearsals at NAfME conferences.

Prior to academia, she taught middle/high school bands for 21 years in North Carolina and remains active as a band clinician and adjudicator. She is affiliated with ASBD, NAfME, and the Hawaiʻi Music Educators Association.
