Khadijat Rashid serves as Provost of Gallaudet University since Summer 2023. She previously held roles including Dean of the School of Education, Business and Human Services; Chair of the Department of Business; and Chair of the University Faculty. A distinguished alumna of Gallaudet (Class of 1990), she earned a PhD in International Relations (specializing in economic policy and development) from American University and an MBA from the University of Maryland.
Her research focuses on socio-environmental synthesis, economic development, and advocacy for marginalized communities, including Sub-Saharan Deaf populations. Notable contributions include Citizenship, Politics, Difference (2015) and analyses of the Chesapeake Bay and Anacostia River ecosystems. She has presented at institutions like the World Bank and United Nations and served on Maryland School for the Deaf’s board (2008–2014).
Teaching spans economics courses (e.g., Introduction to Economics, Economic Development) and graduate seminars on micropolitics of development. Her leadership emphasizes bilingual education and equity for deaf learners.
