Dr. Kevin Yildirim serves as a Governing Body Fellow and Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge within the Faculty of Human, Social and Political Science, specializing in critical anthropological research on labor economies and migration systems.
His academic foundation includes:
- Undergraduate and Master's degrees from Concordia University and Istanbul Technical University
- MPhil studies at Girton College, University of Cambridge
- PhD from Darwin College, University of Cambridge (awarded 2023)
His research critically examines how migrant labor reshapes conceptions of economic justice, with particular focus on Turkey's informal recycling sector where his ethnographic work documented moral negotiations between citizens and migrant workers. He investigates the intersection of global capitalism, citizenship frameworks, and labor morality in Middle Eastern contexts through anthropological lenses that challenge conventional economic narratives.
Dr. Yildirim's work demonstrates how informal economies serve as critical sites for reimagining political belonging and economic rights in regions experiencing significant demographic transformation.
