Kevin Vose is a Professor in the Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at William & Mary. His research focuses on the transmission of Sanskrit Buddhist philosophical traditions to Tibet and the formation of Tibetan Buddhist scholastic traditions. He is the author of Resurrecting Candrakīrti: Disputes in the Tibetan Creation of Prāsaṅgika (2009) and has published extensively in journals such as the Journal for the International Association of Buddhist Studies and Journal of Buddhist Philosophy.
His work examines the philosophical and historical processes behind the ascendancy of the 'Middle Way' school of Buddhist philosophy. He collaborates with Pascale Hugon on an edition of Gyamarwa’s Essence of the Middle Way, drawn from 11th-12th century Tibetan manuscripts surviving the Cultural Revolution. Currently, he teaches courses on Buddhism, East Asian religion, and Buddhist philosophy, including a study abroad program in Bhutan exploring Himalayan Buddhism and Bhutan’s 'Gross National Happiness' model.
Prof. Vose is finalizing a book manuscript on the development of the Middle Way school and leads an independent study with Swastha Nepal members. His research bridges textual analysis with social and historical contexts in Tibetan Buddhist scholasticism.
