Kevin Taylor

Kevin Taylor is a Senior Lecturer at The University of Western Australia (UWA), holding dual affiliations with the School of Indigenous Studies and the UWA Medical School. As the longest-serving Indigenous teaching academic at UWA, he specializes in Indigenous education development, cultural pedagogy, and gerontology. His roles include leading Indigenous education initiatives, serving on the UWA Teaching and Learning Committee, and directing the Berndt Museum of Anthropology.

Research Interests: Kevin’s work focuses on Indigenous quality of life, particularly for older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. He co-designs culturally informed aged care frameworks and evaluates health metrics such as the Good Spirit, Good Life tool. His research bridges participatory action research with policy advocacy, addressing systemic barriers in healthcare and education.

• Lead of the Public Health Indigenous Leadership in Education (PHILE) project (2016-2017)
• Active member of the Australian Association of Gerontology and contributor to international conferences

Teaching: Kevin has redeveloped courses such as Indigenous Ways of Knowing (INDG1800/2800/3800) and coordinates units in Aboriginal Health & Wellbeing. He emphasizes culturally safe pedagogy across medical, allied health, and humanities disciplines.
