معرفی
Kevin Read is a Professor of Quantitative Pharmacology at the University of Dundee's School of Life Sciences, leading the Drug Discovery Unit (DDU). He specializes in drug discovery for neglected tropical diseases, with a focus on pharmacokinetics (DMPK) and CNS drug development. His work has led to preclinical candidates for diseases like human African trypanosomiasis, visceral leishmaniasis, and malaria, with several advancing to clinical trials. Read has held leadership roles at GlaxoSmithKline and has secured over £16M annually in grants from institutions like Wellcome and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He is a key figure in advancing drug discovery models and technologies, including humanized mouse models for drug metabolism studies.
Education: PhD in Blood-Brain Barrier Models (King's College London), BSc in Applied Biology (Coventry Polytechnic).
Research Interests: Drug discovery for tropical diseases, CNS penetration optimization, antimicrobial agents, DMPK strategies. His projects include N-myristoyltransferase inhibitors for sleeping sickness, fexinidazole repurposing for visceral leishmaniasis, and novel antimalarials.
Grants & Awards: Industry and Academic Collaboration Award (2023). Active grants exceed £16M/year, with collaborations at GSK and Columbia University.
Labs & Teams: Heads a 20-scientist DMPK team and leads the DDU's integrated drug discovery engine. Developed rodent models for kinetoplastid diseases and humanized drug metabolism models.
